Yarrow

Yarrow, also known as Soldier’s Herb or Soldier’s Woundwort for its traditional use as a common wound-healing herb, is a vascular tonic. It acts as an anti-inflammatory, antiseptic vulnerary, astringent and hemostatic or styptic, diaphoretic and antipyretic, diuretic, antispasmodic, emmenagogue, and a digestive bitters. Yarrow is used to induce sweating and reduce fever, especially when treating a common cold or flu. It is astringent to atonic relaxed tissues with discharge and a tendency to ulceration, and it has healing effects on mucous membranes, reducing inflammation and and improving blood clotting. Yarrow is also helpful to treat allergic rhinitis, amenorrhea, dysentery, diarrhea, loss of appetite, mild or spastic gastrointestinal tract discomfort, inflammatory disorders, colitis and viral infections, and helps alleviate bleeding problems. Specifically, Yarrow, as a circulatory astringent, is used for thrombotic conditions with hypertension, including coronary and cerebral thromboses.
